A local party hopes to take polling the electorate to a new level.
The Sex Party, one of the 25 recognized political parties vying for ower on May 17, will be holding a live sex show, part of an art installation and political event that will include body painting, nude photography and presentations by party candidates.
The party wants to develop wht it calls a sex-positive culture and is running candidates in three Vancouver ridings.
The event titled: SextArt Vote Yes! (SAVY) is the first of several political and fundraising gatherings planned by the Sex Party.
It is only open to adults and will be held May 12 at The Video Inn on Main Street.
As part of an art installation, entitled Eye Voyeur Agapornis, three naked couples will make love in a concealed area, visible through cutouts in the walls.
When a person looks through the cutout, a camera will photograph their eyes. The artist will later assemble the photos into a work of visual art.
A similar event was staged two years ago at the Vancouver Art Gallery, said Sex Party Leader John Ince.
But what rubs the party the wrong way, so to speak, is the fact no booze will be served at the fundraiser because the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch dennied the party a liquor license.
On Wednesday, the party filed a petition in the B.C Supreme Court against the general manager of the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
Their complaints is the banning of all entertainment involving erotic contact in any area where liquor is sold.
"We live in a free country" Ince said.
"And as adults we don't like to be treated like children by our government officials".
Ince says SAVY is not a health risk and cannot find any reason why the event should not be allowed.
"Bureaucrats are sex-negative. They don't like sex. And they don't think that people should be participating in erotic art installation- that's the reason"
"It's subjective, and not a valid reason for public policy," Ince said.
